Nice Play vs a group text
Stop counting thumbs-ups in the group text.
Who’s in for 7? Is there a fourth? Did anyone see Dave’s message? Nice Play turns the thread into a game with a list, a waitlist, and props when it’s over.

The short answer
A group text or Nice Play?
Stick with a group text if
Your group is four friends who play at the same time every week and never need to count heads.
Pick Nice Play if
You spend time asking who’s in, your group has outgrown one thread, or you want to keep what happened.
Side by side
Nice Play vs a group text
| A group text | Nice Play | |
|---|---|---|
| Who’s coming | Count the thumbs-ups and guess | A list with a player limit and skill range |
| Full game | Someone drops and you start over | The waitlist moves the next player up and tells them |
| A new game | Buried under the next 40 messages | Its own page, and a notification to the group |
| Phone numbers | Everyone sees everyone’s | Never shown |
| New players | Someone has to add them | A join code, a QR code or a public group page |
| After the game | Scrolls away by Thursday | Props, photos, results and a recap |
| Price | Free | Free |
| Setup | None, everyone already has it | Each player signs up once |

Why groups switch
Built for the way your group plays

One tap to say you’re in
Every game has a list, not a pile of reactions. See who’s coming, their skill level, and when they’ll get there.

Props for the shot nobody will shut up about
Thank the plays worth remembering. Props stay on the player’s profile instead of scrolling away by Thursday.
Full games fill themselves
Set a player limit. When someone drops, the waitlist moves the next player up and tells them.
Room to grow
Several groups, public games, skill ranges and round robins, without a thread so busy everyone mutes it.
Fair is fair
Where a group text wins
Everyone’s already there
No sign-up and no app. Nothing beats that for getting started.
Fast back-and-forth
For “running 10 late” or trash talk, a text is quicker than anything.
Getting started
Moving your group over
- 1
Create a group on Nice Play and paste its join link into the group text.
- 2
Post the next game there instead of asking “who’s in?” in the thread.
- 3
Keep the group text for banter. Most groups do.
Questions
Before you start
Does everyone have to download an app?
No. Nice Play works in any phone’s browser at niceplay.gg. The iPhone app adds notifications on the lock screen, but it’s optional.
Should we delete the group text?
No need. Keep it for banter and let Nice Play handle the games.
How does the waitlist work?
Set a player limit. When the game is full, players join the waitlist, and when someone drops, the next in line is moved in and notified.
What does it cost?
Nice Play is free.
Your next game, without the head count.
Start a group and paste the link in the thread.
